History & Mission
Spectrum Assemblies started when I saw a need for more hands on experiences for general education students in order to understand students with Autism. I have always tried to have my students with Autism push into general education settings whenever they can, but found that it was hard for everyone to know what to expect.
I started doing this assembly as a way to bring my school together, so everyone could understand the students they saw in their school everyday.
I have taught in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania and found this is a need that many schools have, including for teachers’ understanding as well. These stations are meant to help others feel what it might be like to have some of the difficulties that come with having Autism, as well as build empathy and understanding. I hope to be able to educate and involve as many people as possible!
